Modern furniture is a very popular style today because of its unique combination of function and sleek form using interesting angles and simple lines. There are many collectors of furniture that are devoted to the simplistic beauty of the modern pieces.
In the 18th century the design of furniture was the ornate craftsmanship of embellished surfaces, turned feet and elaborate carving. Because the trend toward modern furniture with sleek lines took hold, the philosophy of furniture making become one of function and affordability rather than ornate and elaborate design.
Actually, furniture that is considered modern is more than just a change in style. The materials used changed from the typical hard wood to metals and plastics. The more contemporary items can even be constructed with polymer resins. The reasoning for this is not only of a sensible nature but availability of materials which were lighter and easier to maintain with flexibility in regards to function. The modern pieces are about texture, shape and color resulting in a look that ranges between hygienic to an Andy Warhol kind of appeal.
One of the best things about modern styling of furniture is that it will intermingle well with other styling. For instance, a chair that has a very unusual shape will actually go well with many different looks anywhere from avant-garde to shabby chic.
Most of the pieces are designed to serve a variety of purposes like being portable, useful and practical as well. The pieces are designed to be multi-tasking holding hidden storage compartments, display niches, hidden shelves, stacking capabilities and organization systems that are compartmentalized into the pieces. Unless the furniture carries the name of a top designer the furniture is unexpectedly affordable.
Just a select few of the modern pieces of furniture combine both status and style. The majority of pieces are all about making the home more livable over being just a fashion statement. The materials used are expressly picked because they are durable and washable. The colors and patterns come in easy to coordinate designs so they can be utilized in a variety of ways.

When I look at modern furnitures they look so simple like a box or some piece of board, but it is so expensive. Do you think I can make a box and stain finish myself and say a modern furniture? Or is their more to modern furniture than just a box.

I recently bought a modern furniture for my living-room, a TV stand and a coffee table, and they look great. They are simple, but at the same time very elegant.
I was looking for simple and not to common, and I was lucky to find what I was looking for.
Its true what you said in the beginning of this article, modern pieces have that simplicity beauty that you don’t find in other styles of furniture.
